After the Academy’s eagerly anticipated verdicts, SocialMeter Analysis announces the Oscars for best performances on Twitter.

The night of February 28th took place the 88th Academy Awards ceremony, which once more saw the best representatives of the cinema industry gathering to celebrate the winners of the famous golden statues. This year’s edition was permeated by the discussion of numerous current issues, both in a few moments during the evening and in the plots of some of the films that were competing. From the gender issue represented in “The Danish Girl”, to the pedophilia in the clergy of “Spotlight”, more than one movie shined a light on controversial topics. Among the most touching moments Lady Gaga, who gave a voice to all the women victims of sexual abuse with her performance of “Til it happens to you”, and the passionate speech of Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the Afro-American president of the Academy, on the importance of respecting mutual diversities. Chris Rock’s monologue on #oscarssowhite, the debate risen for the lack of nominations for actors of color, also became a trend topic during the event.

Leonardo Di Caprio emerged as the real leader of the evening, on stage and on the social network: after five previous nominations, he earned his first Oscar for his role in “The Revenant”, which was also awarded the Oscar for Best Directing (the second time in a row for Alejandro González Iñárritu) and for Best Cinematography (third in a row for the talented Emmanuel Lubezki). Ennio Morricone triumphed gaining the Best Original Score, for his work in Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”, whereas the Best Film prize went to “Spotlight”.

SocialMeter Analysis monitored the Oscars-related activity on Twitter through the hashtag #oscars and the official account @theacademy. The analysis showed that there was a tweet peak between 08:00 PM and 10:00 PM of February 29th, when the most relevant awards were being assigned (Best Original Score, Best Directing, Best Actor/Actress in a Leading Role, Best Film). Among the most mentioned profiles there was, unsurprisingly, @leodicaprio, who bested even @theacademy. Following there was the host @chrisrock, and @ladygaga. The most active profiles on the subject were @cleytu e @seriesbrazil, both in Portuguese, followed by the official account of Entertainment Weekly, @ew, and @theacademy.
